FAQ

I’ve never kayaked before, can I still join?

Yep!  Come along to one of our pool sessions and have a go.  We let newbies come to three sessions before they have to join.

What kit/boat do I need?

The club is able to lend out boats, paddles, buoyancy aids, helmets and cags for members to go out on river trips. You need to have clothes suitable to the weather conditions (and ideally not cotton) and something to wear on your feet.  Please be aware it can get cold paddling even in the lido where you still need more than just a swimming costume.

Can I get coaching?

There are often coaches on the river trips who can give you help and tips and in the summer we run specific coaching courses to help both adults and children improve.  Check out our summer courses under the main menu.

Can my children have a go?  How old do they have to be?

We welcome children as well as adults.  We’ve set a minimum age of 10 for children on coaching courses.  However, if you’re a competent paddler wanting to let your own children have a go, feel free to bring them and supervise/coach them yourself.
We ask that all children can swim and are happy being in the water.  If they’re really small, they may not fit into any of our boats, in which case you may like to wait until their next growth spurt!

We also ask that all children are accompanied by a parent or guardian.  So get in a boat and give it a go!

Do you play polo all year round?

During the summer we play polo in our lido sessions.  In the winter we have both adult and junior teams entered in the south west league which play on a Saturday night at Cheltenham Leisure Centre.  This is an area of the club which is currently expanding and we may soon start offering winter training sessions too.
