Slalom

Training

The club has a very keen slalom section, who regularly train and compete. Slalom offers a structured and regular training programme to help build skills and confidence on the water. It complements other disciplines including white water river running. It is particularly popular with our junior paddlers, albeit we have paddlers from aged 11 to 50.

We have now published our new training and event programme for Winter 2016.

As well as paddling at various river locations at weekends we also have a regular Thursday night training session on Gloucester Canal. Novices (Div 3/4) from 6.30 to 7.30pm, Div 1/2 from 7.30 to 8.30pm

Please get in touch if you would like to come along or try a session.  From April our weekly training moves to Symonds Yat, where we practice on the Grade 2 rapid.

Competitions

The club has paddlers ranked in all divisions and has a keen development group training our newer and younger paddlers. Ranking competitions take place from March to October.

See the Winter 2016 Programme for all the up and coming events where Cheltenham will be competing.

Joining the Team

We welcome new team members of all standards. The Youth Development squad is keen to hear from new juniors who wish to join the programme. This group builds upon skills already learned and progresses to entering competitions.

Senior paddlers will find that there are a number of high ranking paddlers in the club that will provide a challenge during any training session.

Our event

October 14th and 15th October 2017 is the date of the Symonds Yat Slalom div 2/3 which Cheltenham Canoe Club runs.  All volunteers are welcome regardless of any slalom experience.
