Canoe polo (usually just called ‘polo’) is a 5-a-side team ball-game, played in kayaks on sheltered water and indoor pools. It is a fast and exciting team sport where the objective is to score more goals than the opposition, but is also a great way to develop paddling skills in a fun environment.
Cheltenham Canoe Club has a regular presence in the South West regional canoe polo leagues. Over the winter season we have been represented by two adult teams in the South West Division 3 league, as well as a youth team in the Youth league. Our adult ‘A’ team, the ‘Cheltenham Cheetahs’, won its league and has been promoted to div 2 for the 2017/18 season.
Over the summer, we will be training each week at the pool sessions at the Sandford Park Lido on a Thursday night 7;30 – 9pm and we welcome new players, both beginners and the more experienced. To find out more, or to get involved, please contact Michael (polo@cheltenhamcanoeclub.com) … or just come down on a Thursday evening and see what all the fuss is about!
